Actor Zhang Zhun auditions for the film Into the Role in hopes of overcoming a career slump. During the process, he becomes involved with director Zhen Xin, whose increasingly intrusive behavior blurs the line between performance and reality. As the two portray a doctor and a patient locked in emotional manipulation onscreen, they find it harder to distinguish genuine feelings from fiction.
