How Filmxora ranks movies and series

Transparency is non-negotiable for a review site. Here's exactly how our scores, recommendations, and rankings are computed — using only first-party data from real Filmxora users.

⭐ The Filmxora Score

Every movie and TV series on Filmxora gets a community rating from real users on a 1-to-5 star scale. To prevent a single 5-star vote from outranking 50 votes of 4.5 stars, we use a Bayesian-weighted score:

score = avg_rating × log(votes + 1)

This formula favors broadly loved titles over niche favorites, while still rewarding strong community consensus. The minimum threshold to appear in our rankings is 2 unique voters.

📚 Data sources

• Metadata (cast, runtime, synopsis, release date): TMDB (The Movie Database) — open and community-maintained.
• Streaming availability: JustWatch (primary) + admin-curated overrides for LATAM markets where coverage gaps exist (Disney+ Colombia, Claro Video, ViX, etc.).
• Ratings & reviews: Exclusively from registered Filmxora users. Reviews are not AI-generated.
• Blog news: AI-assisted summaries of stories from other outlets, which are credited and linked at the end of each post. They are not user reviews and do not affect rankings.
• Plot (assistant): answers are worded by a language model, but titles, platforms and figures come from Filmxora and TMDB data.
• Trailers: YouTube official channels via TMDB metadata.

✍️ Editorial standards

• Reviews must be written by real registered users. AI-generated reviews are prohibited.
• Spoilers must be marked. Reviews failing this can be reported by the community.
• Hate speech, harassment, or commercial spam = permanent ban.
• Featured reviews on detail pages are surfaced by community likes, not editorial pick — we don't curate which reviews appear.
• Critics with consistent high-quality reviews receive a "Verified Critic" badge after 25+ reviews and a positive engagement ratio.

🎯 How recommendations work

Personalized recommendations are based on:

• Your watched titles with ratings ≥ 3.5 (treated as "seeds")
• Favorites and watchlist as secondary seeds
• TMDB similarity graph, re-scored against your taste profile (top genres, original languages, preferred decades)
• Country-specific availability — we don't recommend what you can't watch where you are

There are no paid placements. Premium users get extra features (custom posters, advanced filters, no ads), but their recommendations are computed identically to free users.

🔍 Transparency about gaps

We don't pretend to be perfect:

• Streaming data depends on third parties — if Netflix Argentina adds a title, it may take 24-48h to reflect on Filmxora.
• Some country/platform combinations have less reliable coverage. We mark these with a "data may be incomplete" warning when applicable.
• Bayesian scoring means very new titles need a few weeks to find their "true" rank as more users watch and rate.
